My Area:
A closer look at the map

My location is situated between Molenlaankwartier, Hillegersberg-Noord and Terbregge and is crossed by the river Rotte
De Vier Winden is a former flour mill located in Terbregge. Although it is no longer in operation for grinding grain, it is still used for storage of raw materials for baking mixes that are sold in the store from the ground floor.

I visited the mill and I had the chance to talk to the wife of the miller, who was really sweet. I found out that she has been working there since the store opened, 24 years ago. The mill has been in her husband's family since 1818, but it was actually built in 1776. She referred to it as being "as old as the United States".
Interviews
I managed to talk to a group of kids that were walking around collecting trash with their mothers and also with two older ladies.
The girls said they liked this area because of the nature, the playgrounds, the "tree climbing", the dogs and also because of the lake and river where you can swim and sail.
What makes this place special?
"It is like a small village in Rotterdam"
The 2 women also pointed out that they like the nature and the lake, but also that you can do a lot of activities in the area.
This area used to be a separate village and now it is part of Rotterdam. What people seem to enjoy about it the most is the fact that have all the advantages of living in a big city (cinema, events etc.), but it feels like a smaller separate village on the countryside.
This mill was built in 1648 and was used to drain the Berg and Broke polder until 1881. Later it was also used to pump the water from Rotte, but the task was too much for it, so a pumping station was built in the place of another old mill. The Prinsenmolen continued its dewatering duty until1966.
Molenlaan is an old avenue in the Rotterdam district of Hillegersberg-Schiebroek, in the Molenlaankwartier. The road can be found on the first printed wall map of the Schieland Water Board from 1611 under the name Berchs Molelaentge. The street is surrounded by monumental plane trees that help reduce the air pollution in the area.
